Our Dance Academy welcomes boys and girls from 3 years old. Market Hall Dance Academy provides a safe place for young people to express themselves, build confidence, improve fitness and nurture those vital skills for life.

At MHDA we have created a unique learning environment where our littlest dancers are immersed in a magical world of wonder and our older students are equally nurtured and challenged to reach their full potential. We understand it is a necessity for dance classes to be fun and engaging so our dancers are able to grow in confidence, feel comfortable and assured that they’re being guided by teachers who love teaching. Dance requires commitment and discipline which is an essential life skill and a key driver of success in any and all walks of life.

The MHDA team are all professional and DBS checked (teaching ISTD, ABD and I-PATH syllabi in different dance genres) with extensive experience, knowledge and passion for their subjects and regular investment in our teams CPD.

OUR CLASSES

PRE PREPARATORY

40 minutes, £18 per month

Our weekly pre preparatory class is a combined class of ballet, modern, theatre craft and tap for 3-6 year olds. Building on performance skills, magical choreography and technique through syllabus work, children will be developing physical skills, stamina, creativity, expression and musicality.

PREPARATORY

1 hour and 30 minutes, £30 per month

Our weekly preparatory class is for approximately 6-8 year olds.
With ballet being the backbone of dance, children will be focussing on 30 minutes of technical ballet exercises, 40 minutes of jazz/theatre craft syllabus work and fun choreography and 20 minutes of tap exercises and routines. Children will have the opportunity to take part in graded exams from this age group.

ELEMENTARY

1 hour and 40 minutes, £32 per month

Our weekly elementary class is for approximately 8-12+ years. Pupils will commit to 30 minutes of ballet exercises, improving technique and ability, they will gain 40 minutes of jazz/theatre craft syllabus work and current choreography. The class will end with 30 minutes of tap, instilling great rhythm and fitness! Elementary pupils will focus on refining their dance skills and take advantage of the opportunities to further their love of dance.

INTERMEDIATE

1 hour and 50 minutes, £34 per month

Our weekly intermediate class, purely based on ability, consists of 30 minutes of ballet syllabus work and precise choreography, 40 minutes of jazz/theatre craft exercises and challenging choreography, 20 minutes strengthening exercises tailored to suit a dancers body and finally 20 minutes of either pointe preparation or pointe exercises (depending on the individual). Inters will be taught at a professional pace. Whether for fun and friendship or to prepare for full-time dance training, the MHDA dancers are encouraged to fulfil their own personal goals. Inters are also welcome to join the Elementary tap class Tuesdays at 5:30-6:00. This is all included in the price above.

FUSION

1 hour, £22 per month (or £4.50 pay as you go for existing members)

An ability based (weekly) combined class of contemporary, lyrical and commercial dance, split into 20 minute increments. Contemporary dance breaks away from the strict techniques and movements of ballet/jazz and is all about storytelling, freedom and self-expression, pupils will also have the opportunity to learn some acrobatic tricks in this class. Lyrical, somewhat similar to contemporary is about dancing to the lyrics to the song rather than the counts, this makes for beautiful, expressive performances. Commercial dance pulls moves from jazz, hip hop and street dance, but also, for entertainment purposes, might also include ballet or even musical theatre.
